what is a Gender ?

Gender is that form of noun which shows whether the noun is male , female , either or neither .
స్త్రీ , పురుష , నపుంసక భేదములను తెలియ చేసే నామవాచక రూపమును Gender (లింగము) అంటారు .

నామవాచకము యొక్క లింగము 4 రకాలు . అవి

1 . Masculine Gender ( పుం లింగము )
2 . Feminine Gender ( స్త్రీ లింగము )
3 . Common Gender ( ఉభయ లింగము )
4 . Neuter Gender ( నపుంసక లింగము )

what is a masculine gender ?

♦Masculine Gender ( పుం లింగము ) :
A noun that denotes a male is said to be in the Masculine Gender .
  పురుష జాతిని తెలియ జేసే నామవాచక రూపమును Masculine Gender ( పుం లింగము) అంటారు .
Examples : ఉదాహరణలు
Boy , man , hero , lion , cock , sparrow , etc .

what is a feminine gender ?

♦Feminine Gender : ( స్త్రీ లింగము ) :
A noun that denotes a female is said to be of the Feminine Gender.
స్త్రీ జాతిని సూచించే నామవాచక రూపమును Feminine Gender ( స్త్రీ లింగము ) అంటారు.
Examples : ఉదాహరణలు
Girl , woman , heroine , lioness , her , sparrow .

what is a common gender ?

♦Common Gender ( ఉభయ లింగము ) :
A noun that denotes either a male or a female is said to be of the Common Gender.
స్త్రీ , పురుష జాతులను రెండింటినీ సూచించే నామవాచక రూపమును Common Gender ( ఉభయ లింగము ) అంటారు.
Examples : ఉదాహరణలు
Parent , child , friend , pupil , student , servant , thief , enemy , relation , cousin , baby , infant , person , etc .

what is a neuter gender ?

♦Neuter Gender ( నపుంసక లింగము ) :
A noun that denotes neither a male nor a female ( i .e ) a thing without life) is said to be of the Neuter Gender.
స్త్రీ , పురుష జాతులను రెండింటినీ సూచించక, ప్రాణము లేని వస్తువులను సూచించే నామవాచక రూపమును Neuter Gender ( నపుంసక లింగము ) అంటారు.
Examples : ఉదాహరణలు
Book , pen , room , pencil , etc .

Formation of the Feminine Gender : స్త్రీ లింగము ఏర్పడే విధము :

There are 6 ways of formining the feminine of nouns.
ఇంగ్లిష్ లో ఏర్పరచేందుకు 6 మార్గాలు ఉన్నాయి .
అవి :

1 .By using an entirely different word :
పూర్తిగా వేరొక పదమును ఉపయోగించడం వల్ల స్త్రీ లింగం ఏర్పడుతుంది .

2 . By adding – ess to the masculine.
పుం లింగ రూపమునకు “ess “ చేర్చటం వల్ల స్త్రీ లింగం ఏర్పడుతుంది .

3 . By adding – ess after dropping the vowel of the masculline ending.
పుం లింగ రూపము చివరనున్న అచ్చు (vowel ) ను తొలగించి “ess” ను చేర్చటం వల్ల స్త్రీ లింగం ఏర్పడుతుంది .

4 .By adding – ess to the masculine in an irregular way .
వేరువేరు విధములుగా “ess” చేర్చటం వల్ల స్త్రీ లింగం ఏర్పడుతుంది .

5 .Some nouns take special endings to form the feminine gender .
కొన్ని నామవచాకములకు కొన్ని ప్రత్చేక పదాంశములు చేరటం వల్ల స్త్రీ లింగ రూపం ఏర్పడుతుంది .

6 .By placing a word before or after .
ముందు గాని , తరువాత గాని వేరొక పదమును చేర్చటం వల్ల స్త్రీ లింగం ఏర్పడుతుంది.
